2017-2019 Strategic Plan

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
Proverbs 16:9

BACKGROUND

With the successful completion of Holy Family’s major capital project, which resulted in the renovation of the north campus of the church building, clergy leadership determined that it was an ideal time to pursue a strategic planning process.

This plan’s development started in Winter/Spring 2017, with the clergy developing a list of possible strategic directions and projects. The draft list was presented to the Vestry and, in a facilitated meeting and discussion, narrowed to three key strategic areas. The three areas were further refined in a presentation during the Adult Forum on April 2, 2017.

The Steering Committee was then formed to engage the parish broadly with the work of the plan and shepherd its goals and project through to completion. The committee has identified outcomes for each goal and has identified initial next steps. As goal teams are formed, outcomes will be refined and more next steps will be identified and completed:

GOAL 1 – DEVELOP A NEW AND VITAL NEWCOMER’S MINISTRY

This ministry will:

  • Embrace and engage newcomers from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and situations
  • Help the parish learn from and grow in accordance with the gifts that newcomers bring
  • Explore new opportunities for worship services and Christian formation

Next steps include:

  • Form a goal team (April 2017)
  • Explore existing, effective newcomer’s resources, including the proven “Invite, Welcome, Connect” (May 2017)
  • Engage recent newcomers to better understand their experiences at CHF (May 2017)
  • Engage current CHF ministries to better understand their interests and experiences with newcomers (May 2017)

GOAL 2 – DEEPEN OUR COMMITMENT TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY

This commitment will:

  • Strengthen the parish’s partnership with Orange County Justice United
  • Create a sustainable refugee ministry, built on the parish’s current refugee outreach program

Next steps include:

  • Form a goal team (April/May 2017)
  • Gather needs/input/feedback from current parish teams working with these populations (May/June 2017)

GOAL 3 – DEVELOP AN INTENTIONAL, INTEGRATED STEWARDSHIP EDUCATION FRAMEWORK

This stewardship education framework will include:

  • The Bible’s teaching and practical considerations on why we give of our time, talent, and treasure
  • Communication about the parish’s successful ministries, outreach initiatives, and partnerships
  • The needs and projects outlined in the multi-year capital improvement plan
  • The needs and issues for CHF staff recruitment and retention
  • The need for and purpose of a permanent endowment fund

Next steps include:

  • Form a goal team (April/May 2017)
